Works For Me Wednesday: Medical Files and Credit Reports
I posted this yesterday as part of my Tackle It Tuesday and had several comments, so I thought I would share it with y'all as well:-) I have 1 child with many special needs and specialists and another with an unrelated issue, so it is important to have all of their medical records organized and at least one copy with us for all 3 of the boys at each specialist visit for comparison if needed. I request copies of all recent entries to their record from each specialist at least quarterly to keep things up to date and to check for accuracy (this has been an issue in the past, and it is HARD to get fixed!). I keep one complete copy for each person in our fire proof file cabinet, 1 copy in a 3 ring binder with each specialist seperated and labeled with dividers, and another spare identical binder that we can leave with a specialist if they need to make copies for their records, and I still have my copy with me for an emergency.
I also want to advocate that in addition to checking your medical records on a regular basis, it is important to check your credit reports annually to catch any mistakes early and get them corrected as soon as possible. You can visit Annual Credit Report dot com for a free copy from each of the three major bureaus once per year. There is no catch at this site. You do not have to sign up for any free monitoring or anything and then remember to cancel in a few weeks. This is a no obligation site, and I use it myself. I have found errors, and the bureaus are good about working with you to get them fixed and then send an updated report for your records. It does take time to get the errors fixed, that is why it is important to check this regularly and keep an eye on things. I have a set schedule that I follow so that I check one bureau every 4 months to keep a revolving eye on things.
