Do you have “issues” with too much profanity or overly explicit (ahem) “romantic” scenes in books? Or do you take them in stride? Have issues like these ever caused you to close a book? Or do you go looking for more exactly like them? (grin)
I don't have this problem because I don't read this genre of books. I do read Christian and some Historical Romances, but they don't have this language in them. I did recently read a parenting book for a review that had obscene language in it, and I did finish it since I had committed to the review, but I took it in stride and did not recommend the book to my readers. I feel that most of the time, there are better choices of words to get a point across and that often the use of profanity is to get a rise out of people or lack of creativity in finding more appropriate language. If you are writing, why not write with tasteful language?

Profinity is another thing I shun after hard core porn!
I can handle it to a certain extent. If it's important to a plot, or stays true to a character -- Yes. If it's gratuitous, used for shock value, or used as punctuation. Nope, you just lost me.
Happy BTT!
I can handle it if it isn't overdone, and fits with the character. Still, there are ways for authors to show that a character speaks in a salty way without sprinkling it all through the dialogue. It's harder to write the showing than the profanity so many authors either don't know how or don't bother.
