One of my all time favorites is John Grisham, and since we are from the same area, he was promoted heavily when his books first came out. I read the first and have not stopped buying them as soon as they come out since then. I own his entire collection. In hardback.
Moving on, I have spent A LOT of time in the public libraries growing up trying out various authors, sometimes randomly choosing books. When I found one I liked, I read everything published by that author.
Now I tend to find books offered to me to review by publishers, or through reviews on blogs that I frequent. Most books that are given to me as gifts are books that I have requested. There are certain authors who I really, really adore and I tend to request any works by them that I don't already have.
Was it love at first sight? Or did the love affair evolve over a long acquaintance?
Usually first sight. If I don't like the first book I read by someone I tend to move on. There are too many books to be read to linger on work that I don't enjoy.

I also like John Grisham. While I don't like some books by authors I like, I try not to give up on someone for one bad book. Everyone has their off days or a deadline to reach, which sucks because they have to rush it and it could have been more than it was.
Usually, if I don't like the first book than I give them a second chance before I move on. Because sometime I end up starting with the wrong book to discover "a new to me authors".
Hope you have a nice day! Happy BTT :)
I went through a phase a few years ago of reading a lot of John Grisham, but haven't read any for ages!
i love john grisham!
mine is also up!
Your last comment reflects my thoughts exactly. There are too many books and not nearly enough time to read ones you no longer enjoy.
And the folks in our cozy little corner of the blogosphere certainly come up with some good ones, don't they? I love that.

I tend to do the same thing -- if I love the first book I read of a particular author, then I want to read everything else they have out.
Somehow I have never read Grisham, though. I should go explore...
I also love Grisham, though I am way behind in reading his books.
Long time I read a Grisham. Suppose I should go back!!
I forgot about Grisham. I have several of his books too and have enjoyed them all.
I didn't like Grisham's books at first sight, but as I read more of his books, I started liking them.
It's hard for me to give an author another chance if I don't like the first book I read. But sometimes it turns out to be worth it.
I remember browsing libraries as a kid too. I still hand kids the first book of a series to see if I can get them hooked.
